Just picked 4 of these up (for a song!)
Just kidding, I hate when people say “for a song” and also they were merely mildly reasonable. Also I can’t sing.
I’m thinking maybe guest cottage, or maybe for the house dining room – possibly painted black except for the seats. They made me think of this post. Can I brighten up the cane? Strip the poly? The underside of the cane is such a bright lovely color.
Further furniture bulletins as hoarding continues. Riveting, I know.
I had these chairs in my kitchen growing up.
Paint them black and post pictures! M and I are both chair hoarders. Totally normal for one of us to come home with chairs we’ve picked up off the side of the street.
These are a very beautiful example of traditional Thonet chairs. The post you linked pictures what they make me think of very nicely. This post was a pleasure for me.
I have been wanting those very chairs so I could paint them some ridiculous metallic color and then do a shiny red padded seat. I love the picture of the chair from your December post.
So nice! Our kitchen chairs we picked up on the side of the road from a yard sale – they were newly caned, because the guy selling them likes to buy chairs with busted seats and re-cane them. I totally support that, and obviously bought some chairs… and will probably have to go back sometime to find some more.
I love them as is but black sounds striking as well.
Ugh, these chairs are so beautiful. I can see where others are going by suggesting to paint it black – they would look good..but I kinda like their kinda beat-up natural wood finish. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think it needs much, maybe just some danish oil or something?
