growing spring

The Saturday morning breakfast table is vastly improved by the green & blooms of my husband’s windowsill garden. Tiny reminders that spring will happen, even though it seems like my bones may never thaw. For bulb-tricking tips, go here. He adds the following: be careful about letting the bulbs dry out as you chill them, keep them not too wet & not too dry. Diffused morning sun is best once they’re planted for the longest lasting flowers. I add my own tip: marry a green thumb!

  1. Wow! I am so impressed with your windowsill garden! J and I just returned from our honeymoon to a half-dead bonsai and are desperately trying to revive it. I may just have to give bulbs a try… can I ask what direction your window faces?

  2. i don’t know how people can live without plants in their homes. which reminds me that i need to water my babies. i just found some long forgotten hyacinth bulbs sprouting under the sink when we moved! hahaha i should put those in some soil pronto!

ps: your blog redesign looks SO GOOD! just a little tweaking makes all the difference.

  3. Beautiful (and so needed) bulbs! I forced a bunch of narcissus for Xmas gifts…too bad most of the first round bloomed the week before, and the second round not at all. But I enjoyed them, and I loved stunting them with vodka! Has S tried the stunting trick to keep the daffodils shorter/not falling over?

  4. You have a kitty, right? I want indoor plants but my kitties are WAY too interested in anything that comes in the house, so my growing has to stay outdoors. Plus we don’t get much light because we are right up against the next door building.

Beautiful bulbs though, I love living flowers more than bouquets!

Have fun on your vacation too…hope you’ll consider taking some photos of these cute outfits you’re teasing us with in the later poster. :)
