i guess i was punk once

(Or not so punk, since there are keyboards in this shot. We didn’t have them for very long, though.)

Our wedding photographer Jeremy is also known for his music photography. He emailed me this gem from the archive the other day – it made me feel old! This was a decade ago! A decade! We played from 2001-2004, ending up a 3 piece with just bass & drums & catching the attention of Kill Rock Stars, who were interested in signing us if we did a successful US tour. Which hi, basically my little riotgrrl dream in life. But we didn’t tour, and the band broke up.

It’s interesting, these little dreams left by the wayside. What are yours?

you’ll probably hate it

  1. I totally wanted to be a rockstar too. Mostly in high school though. By the time I studied music in college in Olympia (hello, home to the riotgrrl movement), I was writing and playing other kinds of music, but I did take up audio engineering for a few years, thinking I can work in the studio. Talk about a guy-dominated biz though. I guess that was my dream left by the wayside.

  2. Oh my, look how badass you looked! I love it. Don’t think about how old it makes you feel. Let it remind you that you still have that punk girl inside you.

I wanted to be a pop singer in high school (for shame). I even made demo tapes.

  3. Fantastic outfit! Singing suits you! I’m a singer too, I mostly sing jazz but I’m up for any tune! Love your blog, I’m from Dublin, Ireland and was sorry to hear your honeymoon was a little spoiled by the expense of the car hire! Wishing you and your new hubby a happy spring. All the best, Ruth

  4. kill rock stars, really!! I love & agree with what Ms Bunny said: don’t let it make you feel old, let it remind you of that girl, that time, that part of you. also, of that eyeshadow with that top!
it was always my dream, for as long as I can remember, to be a singer and/or a writer – a poet, to be precise. as a teenager, I was always writing songs. I wrote songs every single day. can you believe that? and then I stopped, life got in the way. and I wonder what could have been. the poet dream is coming true, though! I was asked to read at a ‘poetry marathon’ back in january (a yearly tradition at a very cool place/poetry stage/theatre in amsterdam), and they asked be back for their summer edition.
