lamps

For some reason, every lamp in this house is a random, mismatched hand me down. It’s time to invest in some lamps!  I’ve been pining over these Schoolhouse Electric lamps, or maybe something like this to go next to the bed.

I’ve yet to find the perfect lamps to match my budget. I did, however, finally get so sick of the standing lamp (too hideous to picture) that was in the corner of our living room that I decided to tackle re-wiring and painting an old work lamp – within weeks of us getting the new kitten, he’d chewed the cord to shreds!

Grubby, old, and red. We don’t really have a set color scheme for the living room but red wasn’t really matching.

We took everything apart and went with a glossy slate grey. I also discovered (after having this lamp for 5 years) that there was a chrome rod to raise the lamp up!

Whoo! The rewiring cord we got wasn’t quite long enough to run it through the base properly, but we’ll fix that eventually.

Better. The living room, as I’ve mentioned before, is getting super grandma-ed out because no one wanted to toss anything. Like the rocker above, and this lamp:

Which I really need to pack up and send to my mom. We need a new side table & a new lamp here, too. How cute is my Nana as a little girl, though? This lamp was HER mothers & my mom remembers it her whole life. I actually like it but it doesn’t match our style.

Also looking for ideas for my bedside lamp – this one is way too big, and Sean hates orange. Something small but with enough light for both of us to read by! I need some lamp-finding-luck!

    1. Well, I would put that orange lamp back on my desk. It’s just too big for where it is, but we needed a lamp. But it does not give enough light off and it almost falls off the tiny nightstand!

  1. Great lamps! I understand your dilemma. Here at my home we have no shortage of furniture and things, but bringing it all together cohesively is far more challenging. And, yes, I want a home that I both LOVE the looks and feel of. I’m such a visual person, it’s very important to me!

Good luck with the lamp search.

  2. I think the orange lamp is awes too! we have no lamp strategy here either. I both hate/don’t hate my Mr’s bedside lamp, because it is one of those old flourescent desk lamps with a bendy neck and it’s dusty as heck but it’s exactly the same as the one my Dad still uses and it reminds me of my childhood. Good luck with your lamp mojo.

    1. Oh, I like the orange lamp, just not there. It used to be on my desk in the workroom but we needed a bedside lamp and haven’t found the right one so I can switch it back!

  3. you guys did a great job with the red/grey lamp! I liked it in red too, as an object, but in grey it works very well in that corner – it’s cool, but not In Your Face.
