my 2 cents

In 1988, I was in 8th grade, and these were the shoes the horse girls in my class wore.

These have 2 cent Eire euro coins in them, from our honeymoon. My dad always has a steel toe pair, which I find mildly amazing.

I’m not supposed to be on the computer yet post eye-surgery, but it’s really hard to resist. I’ve been cleaning the house instead, which is why my shoes are so very dusty.

  1. THE HORSE GIRLS!!! I stole a horse girl’s boyfriend in 5th grade–it was a SCANDAL. I love penny loafers, too. Lookin’ good (I’m telling you since you can’t see yourself with your broken eyes)!

  2. Tony wore penny loafers when we dated in high school. He wore them without socks in Arizona, and they would get so stinky that one day, my mom grabbed his shoes off his feet and threw them in our pool, hoping that the chlorine would clean them out.

    Thanks for the reminder!

  3. I was a horse girl and I did have those same shoes in high school. I guess they were fashionable but I definitely wasn’t – I had an older sister who was VERY fashionable, and I got to wear her hand-me-downs but by the time they got to me, they were a bit outdated. I told everyone they were vintage but I think they were not fooled!

  4. I loved my penny loafers when I was young! I thought they were so cool. I also rode horses English style (never made that connection!), I dropped out of school in the 4th grade but when I went, I don’t remember anyone loving penny loafers and saddle shoes as much I did. (I returned for High School, so no I’m not a total loser)

  5. what do you call these? Penny Loafers? I am in Australia and they are no where to be found. Can any of you ladies direct me to online link to purchase? I adore…..
