Holy crap, dudes. I asked S. to meet me at BART Friday night, and he shows up with a baby blue 1964 Plymouth Valiant he just bought. While I was in the city. For like 5 hours. SNEAKY.
(I went to the Offbeat Bride reading at Booksmith – wow, that was weird but awesome. I would never have pegged myself as someone who’d go to a BRIDAL BOOK READING, but the book is cute and funny, as is the author! Meg from A Practical Wedding arranged a drinking meet-up afterward, I brought a slew of cupcakes courtesy of Miette, and it was really lovely to meet new people who understand the bridal crazy. Especially Meg! So adorable, jeez! & don’t you all sass me about cupcakes being passé, they’re tiny cakes you don’t need a fork to eat. They taste like cake. They’re actually even MADE of cake. I like cake.)
So yeah, car. I’ve never really had a car!! I drove my aunt’s old Jetta for 2 months before it died in 2006, but I’m 34 and have never REALLY had a car. (I moved to Philadelphia at 17 and SF at 20, so I never needed one.) Crazy!! Please don’t break, little car!
Whoa, it is SO NICE to have a car. Saturday was a day of MAGIC. First, we drove to meet Kate at Crixa to get snacktreats for the tea party on Sunday & to drink pots of chai and tiny almond cakes. Then, we got to just GO WHEREVER WE WANTED. How wild is that? SO WILD. We went to Tail of the Yak! We went thrifting to far away places! We found many treasures! We got lunch at the Summer Kitchen! (Does the Bay Area have the best food or what? No wonder I’m so roundy!)
Ok, I’m a little tipsy on wine and chocolate (Rococo Bee Bar in Rose) right now (Saturday evening, when I started this) so mind the caps. Maybe I shouldn’t drunk-blog.
These are all iPhone photos, I didn’t have a camera with me. Scary army of plastic babies. Who are they? What do they want? Why are there holes in the tops of their heads?
Cupcakes at Summer Kitchen. I actually profoundly dislike this method of icing application. F yr I. But I wish I tried those perplexing lemon meringue dealies.
Japanese tape from Tail of the Yak.
New necklace from Green & Gorgeous.
So I quickly made a 1964 mix to drive around with – THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Also important, the car needs a name: Gretel? Petunia? Parker? Petula? Edith?

Today was SO gorgeous, sunny and mid-70s and strapless dresses and cakes! We need Angel timessssss!
I love this entry! So many exciting things! I gave up my car for a few months in Chicago and I really missed it! I’m okay with not having one, especially in SF, but a car adds so much freedom and adventure!
I also love that mix! It is going to be a great soundtrack for my drive to CA! My pal and I leave the 27th!!
best entry ever! let’s go for a ride. what a sick car, i’d be thinking of outfits that would look good in the driver’s seat. and driving gloves. yes.

that is one sexy machine. i vote for “edith”.
Petula, for sure.

EDITH. for sure.
We found the original purchase slip in the glove box — $3400 in 1964, sold to OraBelle Hennings of Long Beach — so she’s named OraBelle!!
I know little car’s brake pads died, but WHAT A BEAUTY! Swoon.
